There's a lot of whinging going on in the DM this morning, what with folks being told that it will take young people today 31 years to save for a down payment on a house.
Whatever.
So I thought I'd leave a comment, after reading heaps of Woe Are We'ers, complaining that 'it's their right to own a home' and so on.

Fcking 'free' press!
For those of you who have just discovered this blog, having won consolation prizes in the latest Nigerian scam, did you also know that in pre-NATO Libya, electricity was free, that the Libyan govt. paid half the price of its citizens cars, that the price of gasoline was negligible, that everybody got an education, wherever they wanted to study, even if they wanted to study abroad. That you could take out interest-free loans. That if you wanted to live off the land, you would be set up with animals, feed, seeds, equipment, a home. Qaddafi did so many good things for his country and now it is a fcking mess.
And don't anybody dare tell me that he was a bastard and needed to be removed.
Because if you believe that, then you've read nothing beyond the 'press', who refused to publish my comment.
RIP Qaddafi.

In Libya, pre-NATO, the murdered Qaddafi made sure that everybody had the right to own their own home and had a place to live. Indeed, each couple upon marriage, was given $50,000 to help them set up home. Qaddafi even promised to house every Libyan before he even housed his own father. He kept his word on this.

We had the stories with everyone complaining about interest rates being too high today. Funnily enough, I remember saying to friends years ago when interest was low that maybe, just maybe, they shouldn't borrow to the full extent of their income in case rates went up.
I agree Katoh, people have been living above their means for a very long time. It was bound to catch up with them.
